Wasted work is the enemy of all entrepreneurs.

As a small business owner, you want every minute you work to pay you back in multiples. And with so much on your to do list, you really can’t afford to waste time on low impact activities.

But how do you stay focused on the work that pays you back?

By getting real about what you can actually achieve and how you’ll achieve it.

To help you do that, I interviewed productivity coach Chelsey Newmyer on her best tips for breaking through procrastination and prioritizing the work that gets you to your goals.

Chelsey defines productivity as doing the right thing at the right time. And her tips in this episode include:

  • Breaking down your to do list: into actual tasks and not just projects. Chelsey shares an example from her coaching work on a common mistake here.

  • Managing your millions of ideas: where to put them and how to prioritize them.

  • Developing a review process: for your days, weeks, months or years and what Chelsey uses to do that.

  • Understanding your procrastination: and how to get better at moving through it.

One of my favorite pieces of Chelsey’s more tactical advice is to schedule phone notifications (meaning group them and only review them a couple times a day). I made this switch after attending one of her workshops last year and it is not an understatement to say it’s massively improved my ability to focus throughout the day. I included a link below my signature on how to do it.

This episode is brought to you by the Starting a Business Simplified podcast hosted by Suzy Wraines. If you’re in the midst of starting your business, tune into Suzy’s sage advice to get your foundations set up for success.

P.S. I’m going live this Friday at 12pm ET to show you how to figure out your visibility vs your conversion channels. There’s gonna be worksheets :)

⚡Lightning Round Picks

  • Sunsama is my new favorite digital to do list. I love that it makes me “shut down” my day.

  • Happy Planner is the paper planner I’ve been using for three years

  • Group your notifications if they distract you during the day (a hot tip I got from Chelsey herself!)
